The aim of the research project was to develop innovative, acoustically effective combination yarns by a systematic analysis of relevant influencing factors. The background to this is the growing demand for effective sound absorption in offices and indoor spaces to improve comfort, work performance and health. As there are no suitable methods for the targeted development of acoustically optimized yarns and textile fabrics up to now, a novel testing method was developed to evaluate the acoustic properties of yarn structures. Various yarn and fabric constructions were investigated, mathematically modelled and iteratively optimized. The results were validated using demonstrators. By this important basic knowledge for the efficient development of acoustically effective textiles was created that can contribute to improving room acoustics in work and leisure areas in the future.
