The new method is intended to simplify both the performance of the test and the test setup itself in comparison to DIN EN 16205.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The perception of walking noise can be a disturbing factor respectively a subjectively perceived annoyance for people in the room. \nTo measure walking noise, an objective test method is required that corresponds as closely as possible to the subjective perception of footsteps. Walking noise is currently measured in the laboratory in accordance with DIN EN 16205. This standard is based on the methodology, the test equipment (standard tapping machine) and the test rooms of the DIN EN ISO 10140 standards series (impact sound: sound transmission into neighboring rooms). When measuring impact sound, the sound pressure level (volume level) respectively the impact sound reduction is given in decibels (dB), whereas when measuring walking noise, the sound pressure levels are given in A-weighted decibels (dB(A)). The A-weighting of the sound pressure level is intended to compensate for the different hearing perception of humans by using standardized values for each frequency band. In addition, the subjectively perceived loudness of walking noise is calculated in the unit sone. For the end user, however, these units are difficult to categorize and cannot be correlated with the actual perception in real life. In addition, the tapping machine is too loud as an impactor (sound source). In case of high absorbing floor coverings, for example, the tapping machines&#8217; mechanical drive is the main source of noise and not the impact of the hammers on the floor covering.\n\nTo realize the project goal, the influencing factors of walking noise are identified and investigated to develop a test concept (method and test device) based on this.
